Based on the venerable 550 EQ designed by API founder Saul Walker, the 5500 was designed as a mixer's EQ, with a balanced input like a recording console.

But unlike the limited functionality imposed by console ergonomics, the API5500 features a true physical bypass, a built-in silent power supply, and a wide range of controls that extend its versatility to mastering applications.

Like all API products, the 5500 contains no integrated circuitry in the signal path. Gain comes from two hand-built 2520 op amps in each channel (coupled with API's 2503 output transformer) that give you a wide range of possibilities, always with a very clean tone. In addition to being a key component of the API sound, the 2520 coupled with the API 2503 output transformer is capable of delivering +30dBm before clipping. Whether you are monitoring, mixing or mastering, you will love what the 5500 does for your sound.

The construction and qualities of the 5500-API allow it to reclaim its place as a high-end EQ, more relevant and user-friendly than ever.

API is proud to continue to play a major role in music recording and production, after a fifth decade of manufacturing world-renowned, excellent audio equipment. API still delivers the same warm analog "magic" that has persisted since the 1960s.
