Already considered the best drum kit in its price range, the new generation of Stage Custom Birch kits benefits from several notable improvements.
Many of these changes are subtle but substantial. Yamaha has improved the shells by adopting thicker plies, inspired by the Live Custom series, rounded bevels for improved low frequencies and better contact with the head, Absolute shells with a single attachment point, new molded hooks and new spikes for the bass drums, and most importantly snare drums equipped with 10 tension rods for more precision and tension in tuning.

The wood used to make the shell is a key factor in making the drum resonate or rumble!
That's why Yamaha uses 100% birch plies for the Stage Custom. With its 6 plies, the Stage Custom produces a precise and comfortable mellow sound, great qualities for a drum set in this range.
The secret of the "YESS" system is twofold: first, it allows a minimum of contact between the attachment and the shell, the shell is fixed on the "Nodal*" point which is the place where there is no interference with the vibration of the shell. Nylon joints add perfect stability. The "YESS" is also very efficient for placing the toms very close to each other for your playing comfort.
Then, on the floor toms, the "YESS" offer a very open sustain while maintaining great stability on the ground. * The "Nodal" point is the property of Noble and Cooley Drum company.
The new ball head has its hard resin ball and is enclosed in a chrome shell and locks with a very ergonomic titanium butterfly key. It is one of the rare attachments that allows drummers to position their tom to the nearest millimeter. It can also, in one rotation, tune its resonance skin without doing unnecessary gymnastics.
