Cliff Burton, born February 10, 1962 in Castro Valley, California, was Metallica's legendary bassist from 1982 to 1986. Known for his innovative style and virtuoso technique, he played a key role in the band's first three albums: Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets.

Burton brought a new dimension to Metallica's sound with his varied influences, ranging from classic rock to classical music. His mastery of the bass, notably on tracks like "Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)" and "Orion", set new standards for heavy metal bassists.

Tragically, Cliff Burton died in a bus accident in Sweden on September 27, 1986, aged 24. His passing was a blow to Metallica and its fans, but his legacy lives on through his music and his lasting influence on the genre.
