Its design is inspired by the M 49 and M 50 microphones - legendary models from the 50s. Naturally, the TLM 49 has the typical Neumann finish, matt nickel. Its sound personality is also oriented towards that of the M 49 and the U 47.
Combining a retro look with proven Neumann-specific transformerless output circuit technology, this microphone ensures a very low self-noise level, which allows the use of high gain values.
Applications
Throughout the development phase of this microphone, the sound personality was refined in extensive field tests - in order to optimize the TLM 49 for recording vocals and voices. However, it is also ideally suited for instrument miking applications in professional studios and demanding home studios.
Polar Pattern
The capsule of the TLM 49, of a special construction, has a cardioid, tending towards supercardioid, polar pattern. Like the M 49, this microphone is more directional in the treble. The capsule diameter is 34 mm.
The front of the microphone is marked by the red Neumann logo placed on the body of the microphone. The capsule is oriented so as to face the sound source when the microphone is held upright (lateral incidence).
Acoustic characteristics
The TLM 49 uses the famous K 47 capsule, which was also used in the M 49 and U 47 models. Its response curve is linear up to the high-midrange; beyond 2 kHz, it has a slight presence bump, peaking at 3 dB.
The capsule is protected by a generously sized grille, with a large acoustic opening, therefore impeccable sound neutrality.
Electrical characteristics
The letters TLM are the abbreviation for "TransformerLess Microphone". TLM technology replaces the usual output transformer with an electronic circuit.
Like conventional transformers, this circuit provides effective common mode rejection and avoids radio interference that can pollute the balanced audio signal.
Background noise signals that may occur on the balanced signal transmission line are therefore effectively suppressed. The microphone can withstand sound pressure levels of up to 114 dB without distortion and ensures a dynamic range of 102 dB (A-weighted).
Reliability and operational safety
The entire internal structure is elastically mounted to prevent structure-borne noise transmission. In addition, the capsule is mounted on a rubber shock mount.
Thanks to its extended frequency response, the TLM 49 can also transmit extremely low frequency signals without coloration. Of course, this means that the microphone is also sensitive to unwanted noise in this range, such as vibrations and air noise. Therefore, the TLM 49 is supplied with the EA 3 elastic suspension, which effectively protects the microphone from structure-borne vibrations. If the microphone is used in extreme proximity, you can use a PS 15 or PS 20 pop shield, placed in front of the microphone, to provide protection against plosives.

Parfait parfait parfait ! Cette couleur et cette précision sur les voix c’est juste waouw ! La seule chose dommage c’est qu’il n’y ait pas d’étui ou de protection anti poussière.
